three ways in which you could possibly ever disappoint your father.

There are three types of fathers in this world, and there are three ways that you can disappoint them with regards to your studies.

1. The Beggar.
This type of a father is basically the type who has had little or even no education. They've suffered greatly, and have taken great pains to raise you to be the ungrateful twat that you are today. All he expects of you is that you would do well enough to have a future secured for you. He just doesn't want to see you fail. His only priority in life is to see you have a better life than him.

The Upside? Well, he's probably caring, or even if he doesn't show it, he really does care for your sake. He tends to express his care and love in weird and often misunderstood ways. You're constantly subconsciously motivated by him to work hard, and expectations of you are generally low.

The Downside? He's probably using you to live out his dreams, and because he couldn't accomplish them, he's going to go to whatever lengths to ensure that you fulfill them, no matter what they may be. As a result, you may feel a tad pressurised. Heck, you're going to feel really pressurised.

You'll disappoint him if you become just like him and if you waste every opportunity that has been given to you. If you don't become what he has envisioned, then chances are you're not going to be making him very pleased. That said, just be successful.

2. The Mediocre.
This is the kind of father who was raised in a slightly well-off family, who had all the essentials and he was probably never hungry. He was raised with the esentials with slight hints of luxury in his childhood. He tends to have a simple and happy life, and his faimly tends to be the same. There's not much to complain about.

The Upside? Because he's been mediocre for so long, he's going to be happy with whatever little you achieve and he'll be encouraging about your bad results. His expectations aren't very high since he's been mediocre all this while, so you're going to be pretty happy and comfortable with your study life.

The Downside? He probably wasn't motivated enough to drive him to greater extents of excellence, and chances are, so are you.

You'll probably disappoint him by pulling the family to great poverty, or if you misbehave to the extreme. Basically, anything extreme that you do will affect him. It's just a question of whether it'll please or disappoint him.

3. The High-Flyer.
If your dad is a High-Flyer, he's probably from Raffles Institution, and was like, president of the Student's Council, and had top grades. He was probably even well-liked and popular with his teachers and friends. To please him, you're probably going to have to be just like him, or be even more High-Flying than him.

The Upside? You are probably living in luxury and you probably already have popularity and fame because you learnt it all from him. You're most likely to have been given the best tutors and you'd already have had your whole life planned out for you.

The Downside? He's going to be very demanding, expecting no less than what he expects, which is alot. You're going to have to work your ass off because his vision of you is just like how he turned out. Phew, good luck man.

If you don't be what your dad expects you to be than i'm sorry, either your life, or your dad's will be miserable. You'd be forever tormented by the fact that you screwed up his perfect plan in his perfect job and his perfect house and his perfect family and his perfect life. Either that, or he'd just beat himself up about it wondering where he went wrong.

--

See, the problem is, that there is no pleasing people. Expectations are expectations for the simple reason that they're not real. Expectations come from the word Expect, and what we expect rarely comes true. The difference between Expect and Expectations lies in the fact that the latter consists of hopes, faith, time and money spent for the sole purpose of achieving what cannot be guaranteed.

That said, people still make expectations of themselves and of others and time and time again they get disappointed.

How often have people actually been satisfied because they've achieved their Expectations? Rarely.

Fight for yourself and live each day as it is. Don't put too much pressure on yourself and let your parents know what could happen if you fulfil their visions of you. Seize the day and live it.

Know that there is a difference between a Goal, and an Expectation.
