With the last strands of confetti that fell
Came the start of a time where hearts would melt.
words were exchanged, and gifts were shared,
Tears overflowed because we knew that amongst all there
Each and every single one cared.

The confetti was swept and pushed aside
To make way for games played under the dimmest of lights.
We remembered each other's names
To play the games
For fun and perhaps, even for forever.

Disposed off in black garbage bags, the confetti lay
In it's glorious, colourful display;
Discarded and forgotten are the times that've come to past.
As we laughed and spoke of tales, a nagging feeling just
Slips away; and they'd be burned to dust.

The tears and the promises that were made
would all mean nothing once the New Year came.
We hold on to them like sand at the beach;
Water evaporating from the seas which meet;

And the confetti burns - it's end pathetically meek.

With the morn that began at the end of night,
came the beginning of a new life.
Bittersweet pain hung in the air-conditioned air.
While I leave the house, my heart lingers there.
I reach home empty. A home now filled with despair.
