"Dream big to be big"
Has there ever been a point of time in your life when you're listening to someone talk about their ambitions and goals with such fervour and passion? He wants to be an actor, a singer, an astronaut, a Nobel Prize-Winning scientific researcher, a hotel manager, a director.. and he speaks so forcefully about going overseas to study with a scholarship and with basically nothing more than information, and gigantic, fantastic hopes and dreams and more than anything else, faith.
When that person is five, it's cute. That twinkling in his eyes and the eagerness in his voice is adorable, and don't we all love that naivety in little children; that same naivety when they talk about how love is when a father and a mother kiss. It's endearing and it makes you feel like embracing them and whispering in their ear: You can do it.
But when he's an adult, and he speaks of his dreams of becoming something so unconventional and doing something so new, you can't help but raise your eyebrows and wonder if it's possible, and if he's ever going to succeed. That twinkling in his eyes and the eagerness in his voice is pathetic, and aren't we all skeptical about that naivety in adults; that same naivety when they talk about how they're going to make it big and get rich. It's piteous, and it makes you feel like embracing them and whispering in their ear: Grow up, wake up, get a life.
It's not cute anymore when you're an adult and people look at you with such incredulity when you tell them that you want to do theatre and eventually go Broadway. It becomes foolish because your parents are poor, and you're neither incredibly talented not smart that people can find the idea of you scoring a scholarship plausible, which means your chances of ever leaving the country to do a degree overseas becomes a total of zero. It becomes pathetic when all you're running on is passion, hope, and faith, and you look extremely delusional refusing to accept the reality that you might not ever make it to your dreams. But what if all you have is just that?
With passion, hope and faith. Where does that leave you?
