We all love and listen to love songs or sappy emotional songs because intrinsically it makes us feel as if someone else is going through what we're going through, and for that short four minutes within which we listen to those songs, we feel less alone, less out place and more understood. Like finally, after all this time, after an endless search, there is someone who understands us and our feelings, enough to be able to echo them - albeit rarely completely, at least sufficiently, in a song. It is what creates this very strong emotional connection between us and our favourite singers, musicians and performers. It's so hard to believe that there could ever be a person out there who understands us as we need to be, and so we unavoidably and naturally become so emotionally attached and connected to this person that exists in a reality that is so far removed from ours. Yet we think we know them, that somehow, if we met them, we'd be able to find comfort in them as we did in their songs, or in their performances. Hence our obsessions. But that's beside the point.
I came here today to clear my mind of the thoughts plaguing it and to get certain issues off my chest. More precisely, of what it means to find a soulmate.
Your soulmate is your other half.
Someone who makes you feel good about yourself when nothing else seems to be able to. Someone who makes you see the light in yourself when you can't see through all the mess in your mind and in your heart. Someone who understands you and makes compromises for you on grounds of both logic and emotion, and more importantly, makes you see the need for compromise on your part as well. Someone who sees and loves you just as you are. Someone who is your anchor, someone who is always there no matter what happens around you, because you can always look over your shoulder to see that that person is just standing there ready to catch you should you run and throw your whole self onto that person. Someone who loves you and supports you when you're nothing but a lifeless, emotional mess, yet at the same time, is someone whom you want to love and support if the person should ever need to crumble into pieces. Someone who'll pick every one of your broken pieces up and spend as long as it takes with you to put it all together to make it all right. Someone who makes you feel so important that if everything else fails, you can still feel safe and secure and happy. Someone who sees you as an equal and feels no need to prove themselves to you, and expects you to be comfortable enough to feel safe in the person's arms such that you yourself see no need to prove yourself. Basically.
Someone who embodies the spirit of reciprocity, love, strength, care, vulnerability, and unconditional and incomparable trust and commitment.
That's why we're never really content, and why we're always unhappy about the people around us, about the way we make people feel and the way other people make us feel. It's because there is only one Soulmate that God has for you. And until you find that person, well. Some may come close. But most are just fucked up, superficial, insensitive, condescending scum of the earth.
