You know, every year we make the same resolutions with the occasional tweaks and the odd year-specific ones as well. More often than not, we leave them untouched by the time the next year comes around, and we either feel rather shitty about ourselves, or we end up laughing at ourselves a little and then moving right on. This isn't new stuff, we all know that the resolutions we make are most likely going to be the resolutions we break.

But looking at that, there's more to New Year's resolutions than just the standard "lose weight", "get good grades" entries that we always end up not fulfilling. New Year's resolutions give us all hope and for some, even a false sense of direction and drive for us to work towards. We know we end up breaking these resolutions every year, but we still continue making these resolutions because we inadvertently want every year to be better than the last, and for us to progress to a state that is better off and more fulfilling than the current state we're in. It represents our innate tendency towards ambition and improvement, and also our tendency to seek new beginnings and fresh starts.

What's my point? I'm just trying to show you that although you might not see all your New Year's resolutions through in the year ahead, make them anyway. You need to, for some peace of mind, and doing so keeps you away from stagnation. (:

Happy New Years, everyone!
